Inspired by Chris

Inspired by Chris pattern is inspired by a beautiful photo taken by the amazing photographer Chris Burkard. See photo here. This is of course with his approval. I’ve been a huge fan of his work for many years and absolutely fell in love with this photo. I wanted to see if I could capture these beautiful colors and rivers into a knitting pattern for a traditional Icelandic wool sweater. This is one of my favorite patterns I’ve designed so far and I think it makes such a beautiful lopapeysa.

Inspired by Chris pattern’s comes in sizes 3XS-6XL and costs a little bit more than my usual patterns. All sales of this pattern will be donated to Björgunarsveitin or the Icelandic Association for Search and Resuce (ICE-SAR).

Yarn: Léttlopi from Istex & Einband from Istex. If you don’t have access to either then choose a similar yarn that fits the gauge. I only used Einband because I couldn’t find the colors I wanted in any other yarn. So feel free to use the same yarn for the whole pattern.

Gauge
10x10cm = 18 sts and 26 rows on 5mm needles.

Circular needles: 4mm and 5mm, 40 and 60/80 cm (depending on your size)

Double-pointed needles: 4mm and 5mm

NOTE: I knit quite tightly so you may need to use 4,5mm or even 4mm I recommend knitting a swatch to test the tension.

Inspired by Chris sweater is knitted from the bottom up in the round. The pattern is easy to follow backwards if you prefer a top down.
