Kelda

Kelda is a traditional Icelandic wool sweater pattern (lopapeysa). Kelda pattern is knitted with Álafosslopi that makes it chunky and super warm! The pattern is unisex.

Yarn: Istex Álafosslopi – 100g skein – 100 m (Triple Plötulopi also works great for this patterm)

Gauge
10x10cm = 13 sts and 18 rows on 6mm needles.

Circular needles: 6mm and 5mm, 40 and 60/80 cm (depending on your size)
Double-pointed needles: 6mm and 5mm

NOTE: The color chart for sizes M & 5XL looks a little bit different, see the different version of the red sweater with black, pink and white colors in the gallery. There is only a little change near the collar and a slight change in the red/or black ”stripes” above the first VVV.  I loved both versions and wanted to release both options, all sizes can knit the second version (the red sweater) but M and 5XL don’t work for the burgundy version.

Note: I knit quite tightly so you may need to use a smaller needle size. I recommend knitting a swatch to test the tension.

Kelda sweater is knitted from the bottom up in the round, if you are used to knitting top down, the pattern is easy to follow the other way around if you prefer.
